The races of D&D are numerous and the options are limitless, provided you have the right resources and the DM (the Dungeon Master, or the person who runs the adventure that you are in) allows it. The most common races are human, elf, half-elf, dwarf, halfling, gnome, and half-orc. The following lists represent the bonuses and subraces of the average playable races.

- Proficency in perception
- Immune to magic sleep
- Advantage when being charmed

- +1 to your Inteligence score
- 1 additional wisard cantrip (first level spell)
- 1 additional language of your choice
- Wood Elves
- You're able to try to hide when lightly obscured by natual objects or phenomenon
- You have a movement speed of 35
- +1 to your Wisdom score
- Half-Elves
- Half-Elf Racial Traits
- +2 to your Charisma score
- +1 to two of your ability scores
- Darkvision (page 17 of the simple player's handbook)
- Immune to magic sleep
- Advantage when being charmed
- Proficency in two skills of your choice

- Your speed is 25, but you don't take speed penalties for wearing heavy armor

- You have resistance against poison damage (chapter 9 of the simple player's handbook)
- You have proficiency with the battleaxe, handaxe, throwing hammer, and warhammer
- You gain proficiency with artisan's tools of your choice: smith's, brewer's, or mason's tools
